Emmanuel Jal: War Child

Emmanuel Jal: War Child
This film is a documentary, filming scenes and experiences as they happen and recreating the past of Emmanuel Jal. He was kidnapped as a young boy and made into a child soldier. He was one who escaped, survived on the streets by telling his story in rap music form, was taken to record several CDs (which I later bought after hearing him perform in the video), all in the hope of getting enough money to fly back to his village as an adult to see if his family was still alive and would still accept him after being one of the child soldiers (some of those kids are made to do such heinous things in front of their family and/or village to make them feel like the family or village will never accept them back--torture and kill a family member or village chief, for example). Emmanuel Jal not only survived and escaped, he accepted Jesus and became a Christian so his music is Christian. The extreme tragedy of the child soldiers is told without showing excessive graphic violence, but the point...

Strong and moving
I gave this 5 stars! It is an amazing movie. More people should watch it. Be prepared to be shocked as it have some images that are startling.
-Yes I would recommend this movie to everyone

uplifting, meaningful documentary
Emmanuel Jal's story is uplifting and meaningful, appropriate for teens and up. The quality of this particular copy was a little compromised by audio problems (music came on very loud while interviews were hard to hear). So, other than having to constantly monitor the volume, the audience of high school junior and seniors found this documentary engaging.
