A gay romantic comedy that's really romantic
So many of the gay films that get labeled "romantic comedy" should, more accurately, be called "sex farce." They're all about giving viewers a glimpse of skin and hot sex scenes, but they're not so great at showing the truly warm, romantic side of gay relationships.
Is It Just Me bucks that trend. This is an extraordinary film in that the characters are not broadly painted stereotypes, but nuanced and interesting individuals. You may think you know what to expect from each character, but, happily, you'd likely be wrong. Not one of these characters is simple or stereotyped, and all are likable. Gay viewers will see themselves in these characters, but unlike many modern gay movies, they'll see the best parts of themselves reflected on the screen.
Surprisingly for a film of this genre, one of my favorite characters was Ernie, Xander's older roommate (played by Bruce Gray), who is both witty and truly kind. Ernie feels very real and very sweet, and you'll wish you had a...

Positive, amusing tale of finding love in the "gay Disneyland" of WeHo
Blaine on dating in West Hollywood: "Being just average in a world of physical perfection is the worst kind of gay purgatory."

Blaine (Nicholas Downs) is an old-fashioned guy in Los Angeles, a sweet and cute gay twenty-something who is sensitive, honest, hardworking and looking for a guy with whom he can share his life. Not into bars, casual sex and game playing, he channels his loneliness and angst into his column for a newspaper. His roommate, Cameron (Adam Huss), is a shallow, sex-obsessed gym-bunny who acts in bad movies and works as a go-go boy at a WeHo gay bar, exactly the type of guy Blaine tries to avoid. But when Blaine meets Xander (David Loren) online, a guy who seems to be perfect for him, he accidentally sends him Cameron's photo by mistake, and is convinced that Xander only wants to meet him because he looks like that. Gay movie with a heart
I wish this film had had the budget to raise the production values above that of a low budget gay film for this is a light-hearted gay romantic comedy where everything works. The characters are not caricatures and after my first viewing of this film last night it is lingering in my thoughts and I can't wait to watch it again. It is very true that self doubting Blaine (Nicholas Downs) is indeed a cutie but in the mainstream gay culture, especially the clubs, if that handsome face doesn't come with a gym well muscled bod often the nicest guys can get overlooked. It makes perfect sense when Blaine meets a Texan hottie Xander (David Loren) on line and they bond on all things that matter, not the superficial, that he gets insecure when he sees that Xander thinks he is indeed his roommate Cameron who is a muscle stud stripper for his pic was accidentally on his facebook page.

If the story line sounds silly believe me as it unfolds it makes perfect sense. Blaine is portrayed...

Deepak Chopra Yoga Transformation: Strength & Energy [HD]

Don't bother if you have her Jane Fonda yoga DVD
Tara Stiles has introduced me to enjoying yoga, when no one else could before..... However......

Having had Tara's Jane Fonda Daily Yoga dvd for a while now, I was very excited when my 2 new dvds arrived in the post. That feeling didn't last very long. Just as the previous reviewer, J.T stated - it is exactly the same thing! It is just with a different background and with 3 girls doing the routine.

There is a LOT of noise interference due to the wind attacking the microphones, which is quite distracting.(And the background music actually makes me want to lay down and sleep.)
If you have Tara's Jane Fonda dvd - don't bother buying this or the weight loss one. I actually feel like I get a better workout just doing the JF one - as opposed to doing either of this set individually.

If you are considering buying this series - please just do yourself a favor and buy the Jane Fonda dvd. It is basically both of these "weight loss" and "strength /energy"...

Boring yoga? Never!
I found Tara Stiles almost exactly a year ago on YouTube. Not long after, I purchased her book Slim Calm Sexy Yoga: 210 Proven Yoga Moves for Mind/Body Bliss (which I cannot recommend enough) and have maintained a daily yoga practice since.

I was happy to find this workout to be challenging yet extremely fun at the same time. It helps you to push yourself past your limits (but not too far!) and locate areas which need improvement. At the end of the routine, I always feel simultaneously relaxed and invigorated.

Tara's instruction is great, and the filming location, Joshua Tree, is simply beautiful. Overall, it is a very fun routine, never boring and perfect for beginners or seasoned pros alike. Highly recommended!

P.S. Don't forget to pickup a copy of Slim, Calm, Sexy. You won't regret it!

I am very athletic, and at an intermediate yoga level I think this is a fantastic DVD. It consists of just a single work out session for 50 minutes. The session is very balanced and a good thorough work out. This feels just like a class at my local studio. This is great, you won't be sorry. The meditation session is also quite nice, just a little long for me at 15 minutes.

The Biggest Loser: Calorie Knockout [HD]

Not a bad workout - but definitely some bad training (Anna!)
I don't often write reviews of products, but since this workout video is so new I thought I would give my perspective to those who are thinking about purchasing it. I did the entire video yesterday (a 5 minute warm-up, a 15 minute circuit with Anna, a 15 minute circuit with Bob, a 15 minute circuit with Dolvett, and a 5 minute cooldown). While I did feel like I got a good workout, there were a few things that frustrated me.

Anna is not a good fit for an instructor in a workout video. She may be able to get you to work up a sweat, but I found myself more annoyed as time went on during her circuit. She doesn't count and it's VERY difficult to tell when you are going to transition into the next move. She make peppy little comments to the others doing the moves (the heavier versions of some of the contestants on this season's Biggest Loser), but it comes across as very fake. The workout itself is choppy and difficult to follow. You do work up a good sweat, but if you're...

I loved it!
I'm a P90x girl normally, but I also get really bored doing the same things over and over. I actually checked out this DVD from our library and was pleasantly surprised! I did it on a day that I didn't feel like pushing myself too hard. WOW, did I under estimate the biggest loser workouts! I shed more calories (according to my heart rate monitor) on this DVD than I do on some of my P90x videos! It all just depends on what you put into it. You can make any workout more of a challenge if you push yourself. All in all I say if you're an at-home exerciser like me, this is a great video to add to your rotation!

Basic moves with dumbbells to burn fat
"Biggest Loser: Calorie Knockout" contains some basic exercises, good if you don't want too many fancy moves. Dumbbells are used on all 3 circuits and it is a beginner, and may be almost an intermediate workout, if you use heavier weights and skip the rest periods which was what I did. An instructor leads six former contestants. Instructors are Dolvett Quince, Anna Kournikova, and Bob Harper.

Total workout time (about 53 minutes)

Progress Live [Blu-ray]

AMAZING!
I love live musical performances more than anything in the world. I have seen 100s of them in my lifetime, (Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Elton John, Rod Stewart to only name a few), but I honestly have never seen a show to top this one. I would have given anything to have been able to see it live. I was not a big fan of Take That or Robbie Williams in the 90's, because living in the US, I didn't know that much about them. However, I discovered Robbie Williams a few years back and in doing a little research on him, found that I absolutely LOVE him and Take That. I am now a massive fan and a fan for life. Life, Above All [HD]

Inspirational Film Making from South Africa
This moving film is based on the book `Chanda's Secret's' by Allan Stratton and has been adapted for the screen by the much talented Oliver Schmitz (Paris Je te'aime). It is the story of Chanda played with great ability by first time actress Khomotso Manyaka. Her father is dead and her mother has remarried a no good alcoholic who has borne him three more children, Chanda is the eldest and so when her mother becomes `ill' she takes on the role of mother, carer and worrier for the whole family.

The step father is an alcoholic who has forgotten why he started drinking but not where to go for it and drunken `extra marital conjugation'. He also blames his wife for the death of their youngest child, but is still able to steal the funeral money for his own ends.

Into this mix Chanda has an only friend called Esther; this poor soul has no-one, no hope and no money. She ekes out an existence by selling her under age body to predators who stop at the local lorry park. Her...

Just watch, don't hesitate
Great movie. Evokes various emotions. Glad I stumbled on this one. I have never posted review about movies, but I felt I owe this movie one.

It was OK
DVD operated perfectly. Movie itself was subtitled and an ok story. Probably won't watch again or recommend to a friend.

40 stars = how many thumbs up?
I'll be honest. I've seen so many Thomas movies/shows, my eyes glaze over whenever one is on. Because of that, I'm not sure I can give a fair, unbiased review, so... I turned to my 4-year-old son for his opinion.

Me: Hey, [insert my 4yo son's name here].

Son: Yeah?

Me: How many stars would you give "Thomas & Friends: Rescue On Rails."

Son: 40.

There you go. Forty stars.

Extended Cut vs. Theatrical Cut Differences
Beware, the extended cut of the movie primarily adds minor content changes; there is one new scene, which is detailed below.

The Extended Cut is slightly over one minute longer than the theatrical cut, most new scenes add just CGI blood, most of the time the blood being barely noticeable.

1) When Zizi's armed thugs attack Toretto's hideout, one of the thugs has his gun turned on himself by Toretto with CGI blood added in.

2) When Hobbs attacks three of Zizi's thugs in the favela shootout, there is re-inserted CGI blood when Hobbs shoots one and knifes the other. The neck breaking of the last thug seems a little more brutal.

3) Hobbs' men fire on Zizi's thugs for a few seconds longer.

4) Slightly extended scene where Tej asks for a duplicate safe.

5) New scene: Discussion by Toretto's crew regarding breaking into the safe and transporting it. They discuss the existence of the bathroom having a ventilation shaft...

The Best of the Franchise
This is just a great film. It's fun, it's loud, it's got story, and it's got gorgeous girls and amazing cars. That's the recipe for an awesome blockbuster. I'd heard the hype, and had always planned to see it, but I didn't know it would be as good as it was. it was just bada**. I came to Amazon the minute it was over to try and pre-order the Blu-ray--it is that good. Sure, it's cliche a lot of the time, but cliche doesn't have to be a bad thing. If you liked the original film then this is right on par with that--I think it's even better.I can't wait for the 6th one to come out!

Bike-O-Vision Cycling Journey- American Gems (Widescreen DVD #16)

Gorgeous Views, Much of It Ocean, As We Ride Through Stunning Parts of Our Country
These Bike-O-Vision DVDs are pleasant enough to entice an exerciser off that couch. The key is the locations they've chosen, which are excellent!

Yesterday evening I just didn't want to work out. I use a variety of cycling, walking, and hiking videos to inspire me, but I just didn't want a really tough workout. I looked through some of my new DVDs to see if one would just reach out and grab me.

'American Gems' includes some of my favorite parts of the country, spectacular areas around Monterey, Pebble Beach, and 17-Mile Drive in California, and that was enough for me to give it a try. There were other drives which included Nevada and Maine, for a unique variety of choices, all good.

Immediately my mood improved and I started enjoying the ride. These are gorgeous views. I was able to go as fast as I wanted to for my own workout purposes, which weren't too optimistic yesterday as I started. As I got into the workout I checked my heart rate monitor and...

Not enough woodsy scenery
I was expecting this to be a more woodsy or coastal environment and to my disappointment it was more city like. There are 5 environments to choose from and fortunately the last 2 are what I was looking for so I'll keep it. Maybe I can get used to the city views. Also the music is not quite biking music, it's almost hillbilly like and not very enjoyable to listen to. I'll probably use my MP3 player for these routes.

The Book of Eli [HD]

Eye-opening
The Book of Eli is a vastly underappreciated film that mixes martial arts swordsmanship, a post-apocalyptic setting, and a biblical narrative.

A war, over thirty years ago, killed off many people in the United States. Others were blinded from the blast. This creates an interesting disparity between those over thirty years of age who received an education and those under thirty who know nothing of the modern world (at one point, one of the thugs asks, "What's a television?").

This is an unpleasant world. Cannibalistic brigands ambush unwary travelers, identifiable by their shaking hands. Water is at a premium. Batteries are hard to find. The Book of Eli makes it clear that there's no currency, only barter.

Roaming the land is Eli (a subdued Denzel Washington), carrying a book with a cross on it. This book is greatly desired by Carnegie (a greasy Gary Oldman), who is also old enough to remember the power such a tome can have over the people. While...

Fallout 3: The Movie.
I was hesitant to watch The Book of Eli for a while because of mixed things I'd read. Some people claimed it to be 'too religious' and others said the movie was just plain boring. Honestly, the trailers I'd seen didn't exactly win me over, but I gave the movie a shot when I was sick one day, and man did I enjoy it. If you've played the Fallout games, especially Fallout 3, you will -love- The Book of Eli. So many similarities in the look of the wasteland, in the combat scenes, the importance of water, and more. But even if you never played Fallout 3, The Book of Eli is a very enjoyable movie, provided you're not one of those people that immediately hates anything 'religious' and claims a movie is preachy, given that the subject matter here is religion...so that kind of makes you weird to say that. I'm not a Christian, and I'm definitely not an Atheist, but I didn't find anything 'preachy' about The Book of Eli.

The world is in shambles. There's no law for the most part...

A good post-apocalyptic tale
The post-apocalypse sub-genre of science fiction has always been a place I like to go. I'll give movies of this type some slack I wouldn't always give other kinds, so that even a relatively weak post-apoc flick like Doomsday (in which Malcolm McDowell appeared, as he does here) still has its interesting moments. But if it's a good one such as I Am Legend, I'm really into it bigtime. So I've been eagerly anticipating The Book of Eli from the time the first trailers appeared, and now that I've seen it there were many things about it I liked. Start with the mythic prophet main character. His super-heroic weapons skills showed there was something unique about him early on. Those scenes were generally pretty cool, and they were spread out pretty well over the length of the film. (Any more fight scenes would have bored me.) GREAT!
I don't normally review movies, or write about them, but this was just a great documentary. If you love boxing, you will recognize a couple of faces in the sport. The interviews are inspiring because that is exactly what boxers think. It really is the only sport that is world renowned and anyone can understand it, but not many people can participate. It requires a certain love for it, and as a boxer myself it was really heart felt and really put together well for others to get an inside of the sport. I highly recommend this documentary to any fan of boxing.

Top quality documentary. Really inspirational!
Really well-made documentary. I'm amazed that I had never heard about it until I saw a link on FB and checked it out. Seems like it should have won some awards or been on prime time cable.

Anyways, it's a great story and put together in a very creative way. It not only gives a cool look inside boxers as they start out as little kids, it gives the full panorama of Latinos in this country: hustlers, gangsters, humble families, religious types and, of course, the fighters.

I really enjoyed it and I recommend it to anyone who likes smart documentaries or just inspiration films about not giving up no matter what people tell you!

Showstoppers [HD]

Good movie
The movie was very entertaining. It wasnt a big budget hollywood movie but it had alot of heart with great performances from the actors. The story line was good. My 16 yr old daughter and her friends watched it 5 times over the weekend. They love it.

Interesting, but only worth $4.00.
Okay I'm in a Black Greek sorority so I was interested due to the fact that it was stepping from the women's perspective. First of all this is no where near the quality of Stomp The Yard. The acting is bit horrendous and the sets looked straight from your local high school play. I understand it was a low budget film, but come on man. I really wish a large film company was invest money in another GOOD Black Greek film, but what can you do. Overall just wait until they air this on BET Starz or grab it as a quick rental at Blockbuster.

For an low budget film; Its pretty nice. i liked it over all. It does you remind you of a group of high school vibe. I personally would not pay more than $5 dollars even with shipping and handleing.

Spork [HD]

A Raucous Middle School Comedy: Another Cinematic Misfit Takes Center Stage
There is no denying that the whimsical "Spork" is an underdog story that you really want to root for. Even with its over-the-top performances, rampant quirkiness, and confrontational humor, it really abides by every expected mean girl versus misfit cliche that you can imagine. Yet with its amateur and homemade appeal and its willingness to wallow in bad taste heaven, it feels like a middle school variation of John Waters' "Hairspray" (you know, prior to the musical version). I mean that as a compliment, sort of. The film lacks a professional polish that might make it a mainstream crossover. It just seems so inexpensive, so underground, but I'm confident that was the filmmaker's intention. It embraces its badness and tackiness with zealous glee. Some people will find that outrageously entertaining, some might find the picture garish and obvious. I'll admit, I laughed in equal proportion to the amount of time I spent rolling my eyes. I might have more whole-heartedly embraced the lunacy...

Beautiful
I watched this because Netflix recommended it. THANK YOU, NETFLIX! I loved every moment. From the old-school video games sounds in the beginning to the mentions of The Wiz to the dance-off at the end, I was hooked. If you liked (or loved) Welcome to the Dollhouse and/or Napoleon Dynamite, this movie is for you.

I loved that the characters dressed in late 80s/early 90s garb. That doesn't mean the film is set in that era; they speak frequently of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

Sure, much of the overall plot is easy to figure out, but the way it is presented is entirely unique. The fact that Spork is a hermaphrodite is certainly new. The fact she has a dong isn't, by any means, the focus of the movie. We all felt as though we were freaks at 14, didn't we?

Eli Writes Review
Wow, oh wow! This is one of the quirkiest movies I have ever seen and right up my alley!

Let it be said this kind of humour isn't for everyone. It's a fine mix of "is it terrible", "is it awesome", "so terrible it IS awesome". Not everyone is willing to sit around to find out. Some people are going to love it, some are gonna hate it, and some will be left going "What did I just watch?". Which granted was my reaction at first.
That said, I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. From the first moments I braced myself for a theme of trying too hard to be cool and what eerily reminded me of "Napoleon Dynamite"..

On the surface this movie may seem shallow, taking a cheap shot at trying to be different and over the top. Give it a chance because while it's kind of weird, we're all kind of weird (sometimes). For Fans of Slow-Burning Psychological Thrillers
If you're a fan of thrillers such as Silence of the Lambs or Seven, Daylight may not be what you're looking for. But if you appreciate psychological thrillers that focus more on character relationships than plot, this film is definitely worth watching.

Daylight is the story of a European couple that are kidnapped after offering a ride to a hitchhiker. While this isn't a new concept in film, there is at least one twist in the situation: one of the kidnap victims is pregnant. This adds a new spin on what was already a dangerous situation for everyone involved.

What stands out most about Daylight is how rounded the characters are. You're given very human glimpses of the generally violent kidnappers, and how a pregnant mother-to-be is both vulnerable yet determined when it comes to protecting her unborn child. Rather than emphasize why everyone is in such a cat-and-mouse situation, the film largely explores the complex relationships that exist between the...

Take Everything from Me Which Keeps Me Away from You
Daylight is, first and foremost, atmospheric. Its characters' motivations are somewhat opaque. Its dialog is intense, but intentionally flat. It aims to unsettle the viewer. It asks more questions than it answers. It is an existential horror film. The "plot" is simple--a bourgeois married couple (the woman is pregnant) are driving on a road in semi-rural America; they pick up a hitch-hiker, and are taken hostage by a group of men--but most of what happens in the film is maneuvering, and development/changes of character relationships. Character is important. The criminals are strange, because they seethe with violence and desire, while also conveying innocence. The pregnant woman is serene, but emotionally frail. Her bones show. Early in the film she prays, "My Lord, and my God, take everything from me which keeps me away from you. My Lord, and my God, give me everything which leads me to you." Moving forward, Daylight works on answering her prayer.

Thanks to falsified dental records supplied by his former neighbor Nicholas Oz Oseransky, retired hitman Jimmy The Tulip Tudeski now spends his days compulsively cleaning his house and perfecting his culinary skills with his wife, Jill, a purported assassin who has yet to pull off a clean hit. Suddenly, an uninvited and unwelcome connection to their past unexpectedly shows up on Jimmy and Jill's doorstep: it's Oz, and he's begging them to help him rescue his wife from the Hungarian mob. To complicate matters even further, the men, who are out to get Oz, are led by Lazlo Gogolak, a childhood rival of Jimmy's and another notorious hitman. Oz, Jimmy and Jill will have to go the whole nine yards--and then some--to manage the mounting Mafioso mayhem.

There isn't much about this film to enjoy. I was hoping it would be a lot funnier than it was, but I just didn't laugh at anything except Kevin Pollack's character who was hard to understand most of the time. I had no problem with...

Worst Movie I have seen in Several years
My wife brought this turkey home from Blockbuster. The plot and dialogue is lame. A husband and wife team are "hit men." The wife can't shoot straight and the husbnad is retired from the business. the plot centers around a Hungarian mob leader who is released from prison and wants vengance on the retired hit man (Bruce Willis) and a dentist, Mathew Perry. It goes down hill from here. The only interesting characters were the mobster and his son and the son was killed off about mid-movie. This move is a real stinker. Don't waste your time.

'The Whole Ten Yards' continues the stories of the dentist Oz (played by Matt Perry) and his former neighbor and retired contract killer, Jimmy the Tulip Tudeski (played by Bruce Willis). After escaping with millions of dollars in Mob money in the 'The Whole Nine Yards,' Oz has married Jimmy's ex-wife and moved to California to set up a practice. Jimmy has moved to Mexico with Jill, Oz's former assistant, who has taken up contract killing herself. Jimmy's former boss, Lazlo, is released from jail, and quickly sets out to find Jimmy and what happened to his son, Yanni.

The Good: two words: Kevin Pollack. He stole the show and was the highlight of the movie. His character is like a father to a gang of bumbling mobsters that are constantly bickering and can't keep their hands to themselves. His accent and tendency to mix up his idioms is hysterical.

Also Good: There are select scenes between Jimmy and Oz, and some with Jill (played by Amanda Peet) that...

Enjoyable despite inconsistencies (but full-screen?)
Apart from the _Terminator_ series, there haven't been all that many SF time-travel action thrillers. There have been time-travel _movies_, but they're generally not action flicks. (_Somewhere in Time_, for example, is primarily a romance, and the brilliant _12 Monkeys_ isn't about "action.") Of course there's Nicholas Meyer's excellent _Time After Time_, which isn't as well known as it should be.

And there's this one. It's not (just) a Van Damme vehicle, though it works well enough for fans of the Muscles from Brussels. It's also a fairly well constructed and enjoyable SF movie.

SF readers be warned: it does _not_ have the logical tightness of Robert A. Heinlein's early time-travel stories ('By His Bootstraps', 'All You Zombies'), or even of the first _Terminator_ film. But as Heinlein found in later life, an unalterable past/future just doesn't make for very exciting drama. (As of _The Cat Who Walks Through Walls_, RAH was officially allowing the past, and...

Time Cop DVD

Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as a time-traveling law enforcement officer whose mission is to prevent and/or apprehend anybody from traveling back in time for their own personal gains. You know that as soon as humans invent Time-Travel someone will be abusing the invention.

Highly recommended for fans of Jean-Claude Van Damme and the book The Time Machine (Signet Classics)

Awful pan and scan version!
For a film that was shot in full anamorphic Panavision 2.35:1 by a very good director/cinematographer I find it very weird that Universal would only release this in cropped format. Many other people have expressed their disappointment in other reviews about this but I must let you know that the R2 version IS in widescreen. If you must by this film then get the UK Region 2 version. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack remains the same but the movie is shown in it's correct OAR. And that is what matters most.

Good Watch
Enjoyed watching each chef discuss their craft. Good watch if you want a chef movie to watch. Definitely recommended to view.

Interesting but hard to understand
Nice inside look at some of the best chefs in the world. Mainly interviews without much real kitchen action. Some of the chefs were hard to understand. Subtitles may have helped.
